GIVING BACK TO THE YOUTH OF TODAY
HAVING MET AT MANCHESTER UNITED BACK IN THE EARLY 90S, THE CLASS OF 92 (CO92) HAVE ENJOYED SOME OF THE MOST SUCCESSFUL CAREERS IN FOOTBALL, DRIVING THEIR CLUB, AND COUNTRIES, TO REACH NEW HEIGHTS.
Part of the most successful Premier League football team of all time, the Class of 92 – which includes Gary Neville, Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs, Nicky Butt, and Phil Neville all went on to excel in highly pressurised and challenging environments in the world of media and as businessmen, after their stellar football careers led by Sir Alex Ferguson.
Their attitude towards preparedness and the ability to dream big as well as their commitment to creating opportunity is recognised all over the world. Now, working with Lancaster University, it’s time to give back.
GARY NEVILLE
GARY IS ONE OF THE MOST DECORATED ENGLISH AND EUROPEAN FOOTBALLERS OF ALL TIME, WITH A TOTAL OF 20 TROPHIES, INCLUDING EIGHT PREMIER LEAGUE TITLES AND TWO CHAMPIONS LEAGUE TITLES.
He spent his whole playing career at Old Trafford, and has represented England as a coach and a player. He’s England’s most-capped right-back, and was Manchester United’s club captain for five years. Now he co-owns Salford City, and since retirement in 2011, has enjoyed success as a coach and a commentator, whilst becoming a successful and ambitious businessman.
RYAN GIGGS
A TALENTED LEFT-WINGER, RYAN GIGGS DEBUTED WITH MANCHESTER UNITED IN 1991 AND WENT ON TO BECOME ONE OF THE MOST DECORATED PLAYERS IN UK HISTORY, HOLDING THE RECORD FOR MOST COMPETITIVE APPEARANCES AT THE CLUB.
Following a successful football career, Ryan went on to become the Player-Manager at Manchester United and since retirement, has acted as an assistant manager supporting Louis Van Gaal.
In 2007, Ryan was appointed an OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List for his services to football, and in 2009 won BBC Sports Personality of the Year. Now, Ryan co-owns Salford City with the rest of the Co92 boys and is invested in several business ventures.
PAUL SCHOLES
THE MOST DECORATED ENGLISH FOOTBALLER OF ALL TIME, PAUL SCHOLES HAS 25 TROPHIES TO HIS NAME, INCLUDING 11 PREMIER LEAGUE TILTES AND TWO CHAMPIONS LEAGUE TITLES.
Like Gary, Paul played for Manchester United for his whole career making 718 appearances: the third-highest number in the club’s history behind Bobby Charlton and Ryan Giggs. Paul is renowned on the pitch for his performance as a well-rounded, tenacious, and versatile player, and off the pitch too as he co-owns Salford City with the rest of the Co92.
PHIL NEVILLE
VERSATILE IN HIS DEFENCE OR MIDFILED, PHIL HELPED MANCHESTER UNITED BRING HOME SIX PREMIER LEAGUE TITLES, 3 FA CHARITY SHIELDS, THE INTERCONTINENTAL CUP, AND THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE BEFORE MOVING TO EVERTON IN 2005.
After representing England 59 times, Phil went on to earn his coaching license in 2012 and has since inspired success for England Under 21s, Valencia and Manchester United’s 1st team, as well as driving the Lionesses to the 2019 World Cup Semi Finals as the England Women’s National Team Manager.
Now, Phil is the Head Coach of MLS team Inter Miami, and regularly appears on both TV and radio as a popular pundit.
NICKY BUTT
AS THE CO-OWNER OF SALFORD CITY, FORMER ENGLAND PLAYER TURNED COACH, AND HEAD OF COACHING AT THE MANCHESTER UNITED YOUTH ACADEMY, NICKY HAS ENJOYED AN EXCEPTIONAL CAREER ON BOTH THE PITCH ITSELF, AND THE SIDE-LINES.
A top midfielder from 1992 to 2011, Nicky began his career with Manchester United and spent 12 years in their first team, winning 6 Premier League titles, 3 FA Cups, 4 FA Community Shields, the UEFA Champions League, and the Intercontinental Cup.
After this, Nicky spent time with Newcastle United and Birmingham City, alongside winning 39 caps in a seven-year England career.
