Accounting and Finance student Alex on Clearing

BACK

Clearing is not something to be afraid of. It can open a whole new world of opportunity.

FOR 3RD YEAR ACCOUNTING AND FINANCE STUDENT, ALEX KEIR, IT WAS A CHANCE CONVERSATION WITH LANCASTER UNIVERSITY THAT LED HER TO UA92.

How did you find out about UA92?

I have to be honest I’d never heard of UA92 before. When I was looking at where I might want to study, the campus wasn’t even open! It was just by chance, and through a conversation with Lancaster University, that I heard about the new campus opening in Manchester. I was instantly curious and contacted them to find out more. It wasn’t like any of the traditional universities I’d visited and I liked that. Plus I would still get the prestigious degree from Lancaster University, which was an added bonus!

What was it like applying through clearing?

It was really quick and easy. I gave UA92 Clearing Helpline a call. I didn’t have to wait at all, I was immediately connected to a really helpful and friendly advisor who took my details and asked my results. We discussed the courses I was interested in and I got a verbal offer of a place right there and then.

What was your experience of going through the clearing process?

It can be quite disheartening when you get you’re A-level results back and they’re not what you were expecting. So, it was nice that the staff were really friendly and really supportive – it just made me feel so much better. I was excited to get a place on a course I really wanted to do and still be starting my studies in that year.

What would be your advice to new UA92 students?

My advice would be, don’t be afraid to ask for help. The staff at UA92 want to see you achieve your highest potential and are always full of useful advice and guidance. They really want to help you make the right decisions for you and genuinely care about each and every one of the students.

What was it like to move to a new city?

It can be quite scary when you move away from home for the first time but Manchester is definitely the perfect city for new students. Everything is so close to the student accommodation and the Metrolink is so handy for getting around. I loved exploring the many different areas in Manchester. Some of my faves are the Northern Quarter to Spinningfields – each has their own unique vibe.
