Mitch Finlay is a Lecturer on the Sport and Exercise Science programme, and leads both the level 6 Strength and Conditioning, and Human Movement and Performance modules here at UA92.
Mitch also Lectures on level 4 and 5 Biomechanics modules alongside Dr Anthony Gorman. Following a BSc and MRes in Sport and Exercise Science, Mitch undertook, and recently passed his PhD viva, focused on exploring the use of acute and longer-term pre-conditioning strategies on combat sport performance.
Mitch is a fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA), after gaining a postgraduate teaching certificate in higher education (PGCTHE). He holds a strong research and applied background in all things athlete physical preparation and performance, and technology innovation in sport, with a particular application in combat sports and football.
Alongside teaching and research, Mitchell has accrued experience as a strength and conditioning coach and/or sport scientist at organisations such as the University of Manchester, Edge Hill University, British Fencing, EFL football clubs, and the Premier League benchmark fitness testing programme.
He has also managed his own consultancy business for 10 years, working with amateur and professional combat athletes, footballers, and dancers.
Mitchell uses his academic and applied background to create and deliver engaging and contemporary content for students, with an aim of inspiring and preparing the researchers and practitioners of the future.
