Free skills bootcamp helping former schoolteacher to take next steps in career

UA92 are offering full-funded places on their Skills for Life Bootcamps in order to fast-track much needed digital tech talent in Manchester.

Former schoolteacher, Kevin Wong, wanted to enhance his digital skills and improve his coding knowledge so he could pursue a new career in the tech industry.

This is Kevin’s story:

“I am a qualified teacher in Computer Science and Information Technology and I’ve worked as a tech support advisor for an app developer. I am doing a Skills for Life bootcamp in Cloud Engineering so I can take the next steps in my career.”

“I’ve always had a passion for digital. The industry is growing so quickly, and technology is evolving at a very fast pace. It’s important to keep up with what’s happening and develop new skills when you can.”

“I saw an ad for the Skills for Life Bootcamps on social media. It looked like a great opportunity to upskill for free, so I started to do some more research.”

“I found UA92 on the gov.uk website for approved bootcamp providers. UA92 stood out to me the most and the team were quick to respond to my questions. The application process was straightforward. It didn’t take long and I was ready to get started.”

“Even though I have a computer science background I was still nervous about starting the bootcamp- but I didn’t need to be. The tutors are really helpful and knowledgeable, and I quickly got to know my fellow course mates.”

“The first few weeks have been great. It’s very hands on so you learn a lot in a short space of time. I can launch EC2 instances in AWS and Virtual Machines in Azure across the world.”

“My favourite thing so far has been the guest speakers. It’s interesting to hear how they got into the industry and inspiring to see what you can achieve. I have made lots of new connections and it’s helped me to expand my network. “
