BACK

As a third-year sports management student, each week presents new challenges, learning opportunities, and memorable experiences that shape our journey towards becoming well-rounded professionals in the field.

This past week was no exception, filled with academic pursuits, practical experiences, and invaluable insights that left a lasting impression.

Kicking off the week

My week kicks off with a deep dive into the second assignment of third year, an individual literature review piece. This task allows us to explore current research and trends in the Sports Management sphere, honing our critical thinking while delving into topics that follow our interests.

Matchday experience with Sport92

Midweek, I have the privilege of serving as the Match Day Coordinator for Sport92‘s game between UA92 Men’s 1s and Keele Men’s 2s.

Witnessing UA92’s impressive 9-0 victory is not only a testament to team’s skill and dedication, but also provides hands-on experience in event management and coordination. I love getting to reinforce classroom theories through real-world application.

Developing as people

Thursday is a standout day for our teacher-led 92 Programme session. My class welcomes our guest speaker Fraser Franks, a former footballer whose journey resonates deeply with our cohort.

Fraser’s candid discussion about his personal struggles, coupled with his insights into the highs and lows of professional football, sheds light on the importance of mental health and wellbeing in the sports industry. His raw honesty and vulnerability leave an indelible mark on us and emphasises the need for holistic support systems for athletes both on and off the field.

The finishing touches

Wrapping up the week on Friday, we engage in an invaluable assessment workshop geared towards refining our assignments ahead of submission. The session provides constructive feedback but also fosters a sense of camaraderie among peers as we count down to the deadline.

In retrospect, this week captured the multifaceted nature of Sports Management education, as I was able to blend theoretical knowledge with practical experiences and human insights.

As I continue with the last few months of my academic journey, I’ll definitely carry forward the lessons I learned and the connections I forged during weeks like this!
