Top tips for using Clearing successfully

If you enter into Clearing on results day, remember you are not on your own. Many other students across the country will be applying to university through clearing. In fact, a significant number of students starting uni in September will have applied through Clearing.  

Clearing is used by students in a variety of situations. Whether you’ve not got the grades you expected, you’ve changed your mind about what university you want to go to or you’ve only just decided to apply to university.

To make you feel more at ease about using Clearing, take a look at how many students used Clearing to find a place at uni in 2022.

• In 2025, approximately 77,000 students received university places through clearing. So, remember, you are not the only one looking for a Clearing place.
• Around 26,000 students declined their place to find a new course in Clearing.

So, if you don’t get a place at your first-choice university, don’t despair! It doesn’t mean that your dream of going to university is over. Clearing is simply another pathway to finding the right course for you, and it doesn’t need to be a stressful experience.
