Enrol your employees onto a Level 4 DevOps apprenticeship to future proof their careers. On this course, your employees will develop a broad range of digital skills that are in high demand in the tech industry.

What is a Level 4 DevOps Apprenticeship?

DevOps Engineers are responsible for ensuring that a businesses underlying technology and infrastructure is running smoothy. This is a great programme to enrol your existing IT teams onto to make sure your software, systems and tools are working as expected and are meeting customer’s needs.

Our Level 4 DevOps Apprenticeship provides structured training, blending on-the-job learning with regular sessions at UA92’s campus, on-line or hybrid study. The programme will teach apprentices how to look after and monitor critical services and applications to ensure maximum availability and minimal downtime. They will learn DevOps culture and software engineering disciplines which will allow them to automate and codify infrastructure.

We offer a hybrid learning model for all our apprenticeship programmes, so your apprentices can either attend their weekly learning sessions in-person at our Old Trafford campus, or they can attend these classes online.  Every apprentice will build a professional portfolio, showcasing workplace examples that evidence key knowledge, skills and behaviours (KSBs). Learners will have the opportunity to participate in industry masterclasses and professional development, enhancing their knowledge and skills beyond the apprenticeship.

What skills will the apprentices learn?

Your apprentices will study a range of topics on this programme. All our programmes are built in collaboration with top businesses and industry experts, so your learners will get the latest skills and knowledge to put them at the forefront of their industry.

Each learner on this programme will learn:

  • How to understand the business environment for both technical and development operations
  • How to interpret design documentation and specifications
  • An understanding DevOps concepts
  • Access to a wide range of courses, infrastructure and labs from Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure ad Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
  • Real experience to explore the core underlying DevOps concepts, skills and knowledge, helping learners become proficient in creating and deploying applications through CI/CD tools

In addition, apprentice can access additional learning and support through our vendor partnerships. These include Microsoft, CompTIA, the Linux Professional Institute (LPI) and the Cisco Networking Academy.

How long will it take?

The apprenticeship will run for a total of 18 – 24 months. Within this time, apprentices will complete 8 modules and can complete additional recognised qualifications.

What will the apprenticeship cover?

  • Module 1: Induction and tech bootcamp. In this module, learner will understand the Linux community and OS, hardware and architecture basics, the powers of command line users and security and file permissions.
  • Module 2: Linux and operating systems. This module looks at package and software management, LAMP and LEMP stacks, network security and DNS.
  • Module 3: DevOps culture and methodologies. Apprentices will learn cloud architecture and cloud design concepts, fundamentals of CI/CD, automations, version control and git, agile vales, scrum roles artefacts and values ad estimation planning, governance and risk.
  • Module 4: Cloud security fundamentals. This module covers cloud architecture and design, virtualisation, core cloud services, resource management, cloud security and backups, operations, support and troubleshooting, cloud architecture, deployment and migration, and technical documentation.
  • Module 5: Security and networking. This module will look at networking fundamentals, OSI model ACLs VPNs and BGP, cybersecurity threats attacks and vulnerabilities, governance, risk and compliance, and encrypting, encoding and hashing.
  • Module 6: Programming and automation. In this module, apprentices will learn fundamentals of programming, python basics like secure coding, data types control flow, arrays and functions, infrastructure as code (YAML and JSON), object-orientated programming, JavaScript, PHP programming and databases, and an intro to APIs.
  • Module 7: DevOps infrastructure and threat analysis. In this module, apprentices will learn monitoring, analysing and reporting information, OWASP intrusion detection systems and intrusion prevention systems, cybersecurity laws and regulations, a deeper look into APIs, configuration management, and databases and log analytics.
  • Module 8: Role specific development and apprentice assessment (AA) preparation. This final module will go over role specific skills depending on the apprentice’s job function further development of key functional skills and behaviours for their role. It will then move into curation of an impactful AA project and final interview preparation.
