What is a Data Scientist?
A data scientist is an analytical expert who uses their skills to transform data into actionable insights, employing techniques like machine learning and statistical analysis to solve complex problems and inform business decisions. They are responsible for analysing data to extract valuable insights from it, helping your business to improve decision making, solve problems and optimise your operations.
This is a great programme for anyone who is looking to take the next step in their data career. Our programmes will give your apprentices the latest cutting-edge skills to make sure they are at the forefront of the industry.
We offer a hybrid learning model for all our apprenticeship programmes, so your apprentices can either attend their weekly learning sessions in-person at our Old Trafford campus, or they can attend these classes online. Every apprentice will build a professional portfolio, showcasing workplace examples that evidence key knowledge, skills and behaviours (KSBs). Learners will have the opportunity to participate in industry masterclasses and professional development, enhancing their knowledge and skills beyond the apprenticeship.
What skills will they learn?
Your apprentices will study a range of topics on this programme. All our programmes are built in collaboration with top businesses and industry experts, so your learners will get the latest skills and knowledge to put them at the forefront of their industry. Some examples of what your apprentices will learn include:
- Knowledge building around AI including its uses and impact, and the data that is produced around this
- How to make decisive decisions that are more data driven
- Machine learning
- Storytelling and presenting data in a way that is easy to understand
- Different data visualisation techniques
- Cloud based data management and storage solutions
- Critical analysis of data
- Key project management skills
How long will it take?
The apprenticeship will run for a total of 36 – 42 months. Within this time, apprentices will complete 12 modules and can complete additional recognised qualifications.
What will the apprenticeship cover?
- Module 1: Foundations of Data Science. Within this module, apprentices will look at types, levels and sources of data, exploratory data analysis and visualisations, data driven decision making and an introduction to technology for data.
- Module 2: Programming for Data Science. This module focuses on data insights via data manipulation using Pandas Data critical analysis, data visualisation reporting using Matplotlib, and complex modelling.
- Module 3: Data engineering. This module will look at data storage, data warehouse optimisation and data lakes, introduction to ETL (extract, transform, load), SQL for data engineering and building real-time data pipeline.
- Module 4: Statistical foundations for Data Science. In this module, apprentices will focus on data and statistics, understanding relationships, statistical thinking and ethical use of data and applications and hands on case studies.
- Module 5: Data visualisation and dashboarding. This module focuses on data storytelling, advanced excel visualisation, interactive visualisation with python and advanced dashboard techniques.
- Module 6: Machine learning applications. In this module, apprentices will learn about supervised and unsupervised ML algorithms, dimensionality reduction, performance evaluation, and MLOps introductory case studies.
- Module 7: Machine learning applications. In this module, apprentices will learn data versioning and management, experiment tracking and model versioning, CI/CD for ML, and unit testing and debugging ML pipeline.
- Module 8: Big data and cloud technologies. In this module, apprentices will explore big data ecosystems and tools, cloud-based data management, storage and processing, scalable data pipelines and stream processing, and security, compliance and ethical considerations.
- Module 9: Artificial intelligence. Apprentices will learn advanced AI techniques, AI model optimisation and deployment, operational deployment of AI models using MLOps, and generative AI and large models
- Module 10: Ethics, governance and security. This module covers biases and prejudices of data and analysis, critical analysis of data and sources, data governance and security, and legal and organisational compliance.
- Module 11: Data science for organisational goals. Apprentices will cover things such as applies learning, project delivery tools and techniques, report writing, and organisational empathy.
- Module 12: Role specific development and work based project. In this final module, apprentices will go over further development of key functional skills for the role, curation of an impactful work-based project, and apprentice assessment preparation.
