WHY WE’RE LAUNCHING THIS PLEDGE
It is reported that one in four A-level students are deciding to do an apprenticeship over more traditional routes. Earning whilst you learn in the current landscape is appealing to lots of learners especially those from socio-economic deprivation.
Despite this, a recent report by the Education Policy Institute found that places at Russell Group universities are more accessible than degree apprenticeships for young people from areas of socio-economic deprivation. So why do these stats not align?
The success of degree apprenticeships relies heavily on employers engaging with initiatives and creating new opportunities. With perceived barriers in place such as complex regulations, administrative burdens and financial pressures, businesses are less likely to offer apprenticeships. However, once you understand how to navigate these barriers, offering apprenticeships becomes an obvious choice.
To address these issues locally, our pledge invites Greater Manchester businesses to create new degree apprenticeship roles, with UA92 as the trusted training provider, helping increase opportunity, social mobility, and employer ready talent across the region.
