At UA92 we believe in the power of community, education and celebration. This October, we brought together staff, students and members of our wider community for our annual DREAM event, a celebration of Black excellence and the changemakers who continue to shape our world.

This year’s event was led by our Community Manager, Karim West, and the schedule was packed with inspiring moments. To start, our African and Caribbean Society (ACS), which is made up of students from across UA92, hosted a powerful discussion about the important of culture. The Head of our ACS, Tejah Bean, was recognised for the incredible work she’s done with the group over the past year. We also enjoyed an outstanding performance from Jet Black Dance Academy.

The evening then moved into the awards segment, where we honoured the late Mike McKenzie for his tireless contributions to the local community, with the Impact Within the Community award. Mike’s family received a standing ovation as they came to the stage to accept the award on his behalf.

We also celebrated Hermen Dange, founder of Manchester-based Made Running, with the Black Excellence Within the Community award. Hermen’s story is nothing short of inspiring, and the growth of Made over the past two years stands as a testament to his dedication and determination.

Sunrise Caribbean’s catering added the perfect finish to an unforgettable night.

What an incredible way to mark this year’s Black History Month theme of “Standing Firm in Pride and Power”.
