UA92 Students Take the Lead on Live Podcast Production with Think Deepa

BACK

At UA92, learning goes beyond the classroom. Our latest collaboration with broadcaster and producer Deepa Parekh is an example of industry experience in action, and also marked a major milestone for our media programmes with it being UA92’s first live outside broadcast.

Our students got hands-on in a live production environment, supporting the launch of Think Deepa Live, a new immersive podcast experience hosted in Manchester. From camera operation to live-stream delivery, our aspiring media professionals played a key role in bringing the event to life, gaining invaluable, hands-on experience and learning from industry experts.

Hosted at The Dome, the first Think Deepa Live event featured actress Chelsee Healey and professional boxer Abdul Khan. The podcast is designed to spark conversations around mindset, resilience and growth, but it’s also become a platform for emerging talent to build confidence and develop practical skills in a professional setting.

Working across multiple areas of a professional broadcast, students were actively contributing to every stage of production. This included filming, production support, and helping deliver a live stream to a global YouTube audience.

As highlighted by our media lecturer Gareth Taylor, experiences like this are where theory meets practice and where students begin to understand the real demands and rewards of working in live media production.

Gareth said, “It’s moments like this when the theory is applied in practice where the magic happens. As a lecturer, it was great to see the palpable excitement of the students in this situation. They were a credit to themselves and to the institution in the way that they handled themselves both on location and in the planning stages.”

From live broadcasts to real client briefs, we ensure our students graduate not just with knowledge, but with the skills, confidence and experience to succeed.
