What MUFC Means To Me

BACK

This is the place where it all began for the Class of ‘92. Old Trafford Stadium is in our roots but it also means a lot to so many of our staff and students. So, in celebration of our home coming, staff and students have shared their favourite early memories that connected them to the club.

It’s a powerful reminder that for so many of us, Old Trafford isn’t just a stadium, it’s where dreams begin. And now, it’s also where the next generation of UA92 students will learn, grow and build their futures.

Josh Pinder, Acting Head of Admissions

To me, arguably, the football is the least important part about United. It’s more about my identity, my family, who and what I am. My earliest and fondest memories revolve around United; from my Mum’s stories of travelling home and away in the 70s and 80s to being in Spain for the Treble in 99, my life has been punctuated with United throughout. Whilst maybe recent seasons have made going feel a bit like a chore at times, going to Old Trafford week in week out still gives me the same feeling it gave me on my first ever visit there and I can’t wait to give my kids the same experiences and feelings in future.

Will O’Toole, Sports Management Student

Since I can remember, Manchester United has been a central point in my life. Watching their games either at the stadium or at home with family and friends is what I look forward to every week. Manchester United is more than just a club, it’s a family.

Danielle Farrell, Head of Sport92

Working a stone’s throw away from the iconic Theatre of Dreams is what a young Man United loving Danielle could only dream about. I’m reminded every week what a special club United is, and regardless of results I still continue to get the same buzz on a match day as I always have.

Leon Hwekwete, Accounting and Finance Student

Raffi Silvera, Sports Management Student

Manchester United means the world to me. It gives me another thing to get excited for all week and gives me a way of connecting with others. It’s a passion that’s been passed down to me by my late grandfather, who I never met, but I feel it connects us. The feeling inside that stadium is just extraordinary, there’s an amazing sense of community – when we score you find yourself hugging and celebrating with complete strangers.

Karim West, Community Engagement Manager

I can’t put into words what United means to me. If you know me, the best way to describe me would be the community guy. United are my community! Through the good times and the bad. I love this club, the greatest team in the land. Hated. Adored. Never Ignored.

Laura Burton, PR & Digital Content Executive

It’s hard to explain what it means to be a red. For me it goes hand in hand with being Manc and how proud I am to be from Manchester. When I was younger, it was something I shared with my family, my brothers taught me United chants before I could form proper sentences. Now it’s watching the game every other week from the stands with my best mates. For me Manchester United is community, family and pride.

Finley Sutcliffe, Business of Football Student

I’ve been a fan ever since I can remember. I was brought up on United – my Dad is a big fan. Being a United fan has its ups and downs but I’ve always felt a part of the United culture. Walking into the stadium still has the same nostalgic feeling, no matter how many times I’ve been. United is more than just a club to me and so many others. There are thousands of clubs, but Manchester United is really unique and the matchday experience is one of a kind.

Win or lose, Manchester United teaches me what it means to believe.
