Get Ready For Your UA92 Open Day: 5 Tips To Make The Most of Your Visit

BACK

Booked an Open Day but don’t know what to do next? Don’t stress.

Whether UA92 is top of your list or you’re still figuring out your options, an Open Day is your chance to see if uni life feels right for you.
Choosing a university is a big decision and we get that. It’s normal to feel nervous but there’s no pressure to have everything figured out right now. An Open Day is the perfect opportunity to explore your options, meet (and quiz!) current students, speak with lecturers and wider uni staff, and get a feel for what life at UA92 is really like.

Follow these five simple tips to make the most of your visit and get the answers you actually need.

1. Plan your journey to make sure you arrive stress free

We’ve all been there. You set off in plenty of time, only to end up stuck in traffic, struggling to find parking, or realising you’ve put the wrong postcode into your maps. The last thing you want is to start your Open Day feeling rushed.
Before the day, take a few minutes to check your route, travel times and parking or public transport options so you know exactly where you’re heading.

UA92’s campus is easily accessible from across Greater Manchester and beyond, so whether you’re travelling by train, tram, bus or car, planning means you can focus on the day without worrying about getting there. The Bee Network’s Journey Planner is a really useful tool!

P.S. Keep an eye on your inbox in the lead-up to the event. We’ll send you everything you need to know, including detailed travel and parking information.

2. Do your course research before you arrive

You don’t need to know exactly what you want to study, but having a rough idea can help you make the most of conversations with academics and current students.

Take some time to explore our Business, Digital, Media and Sports degrees before your visit. Think about what interests you, what careers you’re curious about and what skills you’d like to develop.

The more you know before you arrive, the easier it will be to compare courses and decide which options feel right for you.

And remember, all our degrees are awarded by Lancaster University!

3. Build your Open Day game plan

There’s a lot to see on an Open Day. From course talks and campus tours to student support sessions and Q&As, the day can go by much faster than you expect.

Before you arrive, take a look at the event schedule and prioritise the sessions that matter most to you. Maybe you’re interested in a particular course, want to find out about competitive sport opportunities, or have questions about student finance.
Having a plan helps you make sure you don’t miss anything important while still leaving time to explore and speak to academics and student ambassadors.

4. Ask the right questions

Let’s be honest, you’ve probably already spent hours researching universities on TikTok, Instagram, YouTube and Google.

Your Open Day is your opportunity to go beyond the website and get real answers.

Want to know what the timetable is actually like? How students balance studying and social life? What support is available? What makes UA92 different from other universities?

Write down your questions in your notes app before you arrive so you don’t forget them. No question is too small, and our staff, academics and student ambassadors are there to help.

Some questions you might want to ask:

  • What does a typical week look like?
  • What work experience opportunities are available?
  • How are courses assessed?
  • What support services are available?
  • What do students enjoy most about studying at UA92?
  • What career opportunities can this degree lead to?

Remember, our approach is different to a traditional university, so don’t assume you know the answer to a question because you’ve asked it at another uni!

5. Try and picture yourself living and studying in Manchester

If you choose to apply to UA92, Manchester will be your home for the next few years. Choosing a university isn’t just about the course, it’s also about where you’ll spend the next few years of your life.

Take some time to explore the local area and imagine what day-to-day student life could look like. From the culture and creativity of nearby Chorlton to the buzz of MediaCity, there are loads of places to discover around campus.

You’ll also be close to world-famous sporting venues including Old Trafford and Emirates Old Trafford (both part of our campus!).

Most importantly, pay attention to how the university feels. Can you see yourself studying here? Do the students seem welcoming? Does the campus environment suit you?

Sometimes that’s the thing that helps you make your decision.
