Associate Deans

Dr Firoz Bhaiyat

Associate Dean (Business, Digital & Academic Development & Assurance)

I’ve worked in academia for over 10 years following a short time in industry, holding positions at different levels.

I started my academic career as a Graduate Tutor and progressed over time, holding numerous positions ranging from Course Leader, then Subject Head to more recently Associate Dean.

I have an undergraduate degree in Business (a major in Accounting and Marketing) and a master’s degree in Banking and Finance. My passion for education has also led to a Diploma in Events Management, a Post Graduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education and a Certificate in Financial Technology and Innovation.

My research interests are within the field of Leadership, Management, Financial Distress and Financial Technology.

I’m passionate about bringing real world experiences to students, providing them with an experience that sets them up for life.

Eoin Murray - Head of Sport

Associate Dean (Sports, Media & External Engagement)

I hold teaching and applied practice qualifications, and I lead a team of ambitious, hard-working and knowledgeable staff members.

I’m keen to ensure UA92 students are provided with a holistic array of support and experiences which will serve them well now and in their future endeavours.

I bring my HE teaching, research and applied practice experiences to UA92 to inform, guide and enhance an inclusive student experience.

Moreover, I’m keen to ensure the curriculum is informed and underpinned by contemporary research which is brought to life through suitable pedagogical practices.

Anastasios Traianos

Lecturer in Sports Management and Business

As a former international professional athlete with a strong academic background, I bring extensive experience across the sports business management industry, from high-performance competition to sport business, management and development.

I am passionate about using the power of sport to drive growth, innovation, and opportunity. I strive to create transformative learning experiences that connect theory with real-world practice.

I feel committed to developing confident, motivated, and capable individuals. I aim to support every student in realising their full potential, in their studies, their careers, and their lives beyond the classroom.

Donna Walsh

Business Lecturer

As a Business lecturer at UA92 with an eclectic career history, I’m passionate about proving a career-path does not have to be straight.

Previously I have worked as a manager in day centres for adults with autism and challenging behaviours, project-managed the construction of a swimming pool, and have ran a successful childcare business before transitioning to teaching.

Outside of my role, I’m a proud mother of two grown daughters, and a dog lover.

Emma Gaskill

Course Leader: Accounting and Finance

I have over 10 years of industry experience in various accounting roles and a BSc Hons in Business Law, Post Grad Cert in Education, and AAT Level 4 qualifications.

I have been teaching in Accounting and Finance / Accounting and Business at UA92 for 4 years.

My specialism lies in all areas of accounting, particularly taxation. I am a fully licensed accountant with the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) and run a successful accounting and finance business.

Garret Keogh

Digital Marketing Lecturer

I’ve built my career at the intersection of creativity, data, and digital technology. Starting in the 90s editing leading tech magazines, I went on to lead digital content strategies for major brands like AOL and MTV and worked with top digital marketing agencies. Later, I founded my own marketing agency, partnering with global brands such as the BBC and Nike to deliver award-winning campaigns.

At UA92, I’m passionate about teaching students how storytelling, strong brand values, and ethical marketing practices combine to create impactful campaigns.

I believe marketing powered by original ideas, actionable insights, and integrity can shape brands that make a genuine difference in the world.

Kelly Henley

Head of Business

I have over 14 years of teaching experience in Higher Education. Before teaching, I was a HR Manager within the hospitality industry for a few leading brands.

In 2009, I decided to take the leap and went back to university to get my teaching qualification.

I have a passion for teaching and learning and am a big advocate for our UA92 students, supporting students as a Course Leader for Business Management.

My areas of expertise are Cross Cultural Management and Leadership. My current research interests are Strategic Leadership and HRM At UA92.

Mohammad Atcha

Lecturer in Accounting and Finance

I have worked in finance for the last 6 years across a wide range of sectors, from travel and financial services, to investment management. I am passionate about bringing my industry experience to the classroom, to better prepare UA92 students for the world of finance.

Outside of work, I am a keen traveller and continue to tick new countries off my bucket list. I also passionately follow Manchester United. During any spare time, I have a keen interest in single player strategy games, which allow me switch off and keep my mind fresh.

I completed my PhD in Business Management in 2023 and have since worked with different universities across the UK.

I am very passionate about innovation and how it can impact firm performance.

I’m a lecturer in Business Management at UA92, teaching at the UA92 Business School.

I have a Doctorate in Business Administration, an MSc in Marketing and an MBA in Business Administration and Management.

In 2019, I was awarded with ‘Best Research Paper in Track’ for my research focusing on the intersection between marketing, technology and consumer experience.

I am especially interested in exploring the impact of digital media on human behaviour.

Sports Management Lecturer

I have over 25 years in the sports and leisure industry, putting great focus on creating inclusive, accessible activities and spaces for all.  

As a lead for equality, diversity, and inclusion initiatives in Salford, I’ve managed community sports development teams and programmes, including redeveloping school and university sports facilities in Greater Manchester.

I’m now a lecturer in Sport Business Management at UA92, passionate about inspiring and educating future sports leaders to champion diversity and community engagement in the industry.

In my spare time, I enjoy playing golf and padel tennis.

Spencer Fearn

Course Leader: Sports Management

I have worked in the education sector for 30 years, leading companies in FE before making the change to work in HE a number of years ago.

I have a varied career, from owning professional football clubs, to a manager / promoter in professional boxing and a director of a rugby union team.

I also worked in the music industry for several years promoting house music events in England, Ibiza and Marbella!

As well as working for UA92, I am a coach educator for the English F.A and own a private football academy where I coach boys and girls from the age of 7.

Education-wise, I have 2 master’s degrees, 2 Johan Cruyff master’s in Coaching and Sports Management, Level 7s in Management and Strategic Management and am a WABC accredited executive coach.

My biggest passion is football, and I am a long-suffering Sheffield Wednesday fan.

Ali Al-Azari

Senior Lecturer in Computer Science

I’m an experienced Senior Lecturer in Computer Science and Cybersecurity, as well as the 92 programme lead for the World of Digital.

I hold an MSc in Cloud and Network Security and am passionate about driving innovation and clarity in digital education.

Having vast experience in optimising IT infrastructure and practical instructions, I can provide great insights into IT technical matters. I always prefer a hands-on approach, commit to excellence and foster a strong learning environment that empowers the next generation of digital professionals.

Damian Payton - Digital Academic

Damian Payton

Head of Digital

My digital career started at BBC Manchester, as producer and community media skills trainer.

At DigitalMe, I developed UK-wide youth digital skills projects – including Supporter To Reporter, which took Trafford teenagers to the London 2012 Olympics.

I founded Hive Manchester, an award-winning social enterprise helping young people learn digital skills in fun and creative ways. Hive reached over 4000 young people and 220 schools, colleges and universities, especially in disadvantaged areas of Greater Manchester.

Throughout my career, I have worked closely with top tech employers like Cisco, Mozilla and Accenture, developing some of the UK’s first Digital Apprenticeships and a Princes Trust-supported digital bootcamp.

I am a STEM ambassador, Code Club Founder, Coderdojo Champion and Raspberry Pi Certified Educator.

Away from the screens I love to run, swim and cycle in the hills of my hometown Buxton.

Ngozi Nneke TechFest

Senior Lecturer in Computer Science & AI – Research and Enterprise Lead

I’m a Senior Lecturer in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence, and Research and Enterprise Lead, with over 18 years of experience across academia and industry.

I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA), hold a PGCE LTHE, and a BSc (Hons) in Computer Science with 4 master’s degrees, including an MBA. I am currently awaiting my PhD viva in Explainable Artificial Intelligence (AI).

My research focuses on Explainable and Trustworthy AI, developing explainable, transparent, and ethical AI models for healthcare and applied domains. I have co-authored peer-reviewed papers and presented at major international conferences in AI, Explainable AI, Data Science, and Digital Innovation.

I am also the founder and convener of UA92 TechFest, a flagship employability and innovation event linking Level 6 Computer Science students with industry partners. I serve on the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society Strategic Planning Committee and am a judge at the Prolific North Tech Awards.

I have experience teaching across a range of levels, and as a former course lead I have worked on creating engaging and inclusive experiences for students in many different sub fields of Computer Science.

My main interests are in Problem Solving, Programming, Logic and Mathematical Techniques for Computer Science.

As a Digital Lecturer at UA92, I am passionate about delivering fun yet comprehensive sessions to our students.

In my free time I play chess and watch videos on a variety of topics.

Omar Ailobadi - Digital Academic

Omar Alobaidi

Digital Lecturer

With a Ph.D. in Computer Science (AI) from Manchester Metropolitan University, I bring over five years of experience in higher education. Most recently, I served as an IT Lecturer, teaching Python, Java, and database systems, and previously taught at Sussex University, where I developed programming modules and full course materials. My research interests include AI-driven learning technologies, and I have a strong background in programming and web development. Outside of work, I enjoy web design, reading, current affairs, and spending time with family and friends.

I’m a former secondary school teacher and website developer, now working as a Digital Lecturer. I love helping students explore coding, creativity, and all things digital.

My background in education and web development allows me to blend technical know-how with a passion for teaching and problem-solving.

I am a Senior Lecturer in Computer Science and a PhD researcher in Information Science, with particular interests in system analysis and design.

My research focuses on data management and information retrieval, exploring how information can be organised, accessed, and utilised effectively in digital systems.

Over the past 20 years, I have had the privilege of teaching both adult learners and undergraduate students, taking on a range of responsibilities including supervision, mentoring and curriculum design.

Alongside my work in education, I am also a published author and have been involved in innovative approaches to teaching and learning.

Outside of academia, I enjoy spending my time reading and exploring nature through hiking.

Amanda Partington - Sport Academic

Amanda Partington

Course Leader for Physical Education

Senior Lecturer across the sport programmes at UA92, with a Doctorate in Elite Performance: ‘Designing and Delivering Talent Development Frameworks: A Practitioner’s Perspective’ in 2022.

I’ve been operating in the world of Performance and Talent Development for over 25 years, and am a L4 high performance coach. As an International Coach, I have led a team through two Commonwealth Games cycles, in Delhi 2010 and Glasgow 2014.

Alongside coaching, I have held senior management roles within England Hockey, England Squash and Hockey Wales, after a successful lecturing career across FE and HE.

I am also a member of CRiC (Cluster for Research into Coaching). My current research interests are designing and delivering  Talent Development Frameworks across various environments, alongside managing change across a multi-stakeholder network to provide the best environments to develop best performance. Additionally, creating best learning environments for HE students within a block teaching structure.

UA92 Christina Cunningham

As a Sport Lecturer at UA92, I bring over 15 years’ experience to the classroom.

I have worked extensively with young professional athletes, and have developed a deep passion for athlete education, securing TASS Dual Career Status for UA92.

With experience as a qualified PE teacher, I aim to merge best practices and knowledge gained from the professional sports environment with those from mainstream education and inclusive teaching practices, to help students unlock their true potential.

As UA92s longest-serving academic, I witnessed the exciting and game-changing development of UA92 from pre-students to now, and my contributions were instrumental to the establishment of the PE Degree programme and wider UA92 life.

Dr Christina Langley - Sport Lecturer

I’m a versatile Applied Sport and Exercise Physiologist with a passion for research and applied work in para-sports.

I’ve gained experience in para-football, netball, and cricket, and have worked as a physical performance coach and consultant for England Para-Football and other high-performance teams.

I’ve published research on musculoskeletal health and injury in people with cerebral palsy, and I’m currently involved in projects investigating physical activity, interoception, and para-swimming classification.

Christopher Wallace

Lecturer in Sport

I’m a sport lecturer, an exercise physiologist, and a specialist in ultra endurance and triathlon coaching and coach education.

I have a background in Sports and Exercise Science and hold a master’s in Exercise Physiology. I’m passionate about using AI to advance physiological methods that aid athletes and students, merging technology with training science for enhanced results.

Outside of work, I’m an avid climber and drummer and was part of Sean Conway’s crew for Iron 105.

My background is in the fitness industry, working as a Personal Trainer and Sports Massage Therapist, and delivering courses for those looking to move into the field.

From there, I moved into coaching and education and have been balancing the two worlds ever since, enjoying the different perspectives that they bring.

I switch off from work by relaxing quietly with a book.

I draw on over 10 years of experience working in professional football, research and data analysis, sport-for-development, and education, to prepare UA92 students for successful careers.

I’m currently studying for a PhD in Sports and Exercise Psychology.

I’m MCIMSPA and ISPAS accredited, and hold several professional qualifications in coaching (including a UEFA B football coaching license), talent identification, performance analysis, and education.

I’m passionate about harnessing digital technology to induce advancement across the world of sport and teaching practice.

At UA92, I’m keen to ensure students are supported in their personal and professional development by providing industry experience, applied practice and academic skills in an engaging and inclusive environment.

Jason Doggett - Sport Academic

I’m a lecturer in Sports Coaching with a passion for talent development, skill acquisition and pedagogy.

I’m currently undertaking doctoral research within bioecological talent development environments within women’s football.

Alongside teaching, I have a wide range of experience within sport development and performance coaching, including English Premier League and Welsh Premier League football academies.

I’ve achieved a range of sports coaching qualifications including the UEFA A License, UEFA Elite A Youth License and FA Youth Award.

I’m passionate about supporting students to achieve success in the classroom, giving them the confidence to become industry leaders.

UA92 Johnson Chandigere

I’m a trainee sport and exercise psychologist working towards my BPS Stage 2 accreditation, through my Sport and Exercise Psychology Professional Doctorate course.

My journey within sport and exercise psychology began with my own experiences of academy rugby, which lead me to take an interest into psychological performance and the holistic development of athletes within performance environments.

After obtaining both a BSc Honours and MSc in Sport and Exercise Psychology, I am currently in the process of completing my Professional Doctorate in Sport and Exercise Psychology. During my studies, I began working in the applied field, specifically in different elite performance environments, with international athletes and their coaches, across a range of sports. My goal is to aid their performance and holistic development.

My teaching delivery focuses on bringing theory to life by providing real world context and knowledge, supported by academic literature, to ensure students are supported in their personal, professional, and academic development.   

Jon Radcliffe - Course Leader

I have an academic background in Sports Science, Sport Psychology, and Strength and Conditioning.

Having received a First Class BSc in Applied Sport Science and a MSc (distinction) in Psychology, I’ve conducted research examining the use of psychology within strength and conditioning, graduating as a Doctor of Philosophy in 2014. 

I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) and was awarded the Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice in 2013.

I also have considerable experience in programme design and leadership, having designed and led Sports Coaching undergraduate degrees since 2016, as well as leading the Sport and Exercise Science suite of programmes through successful periodic reapproval.

Matt Fielding

Lecturer in Sport

I have a breadth of educational experience, spanning 15 years over many different roles. I spent 5 years as a Head of Year, ensuring the pastoral care of 200 students, before becoming the Head of PE, responsible for the curriculum design and outcomes of all students. I then progressed to Assistant Headteacher, during which I also spent time consulting on the PE curriculum design to ensure that the students’ holistic development was appropriately nurtured whilst producing tangible outcomes.

I have been an effective mentor to multiple PGCE students over this time, whilst also working in collaboration with exam boards and moderators to ensure best practice.

I decided to transfer my knowledge of working with young people to community coaching, taking up the role of Head Coach across multiple sites for Manchester United Foundation. I’m passionate about ensuring that all young people have access to opportunities and support needed for future growth and success.

More recently, I have taken up the role of Strength and Conditioning coach at Manchester Storm Ice Hockey club, where I support players with all off-ice needs to improve their on-ice outcomes.

All of this is coupled with further study as I work towards a Professional Doctorate in Elite Sport Performance.

I am a Sports and Exercise Science lecturer at UA92, leading both the Level 6 Strength and Conditioning and Human Movement and Performance modules.

Following a BSc and MRes in Sport and Exercise Science, I undertook, and recently passed my PhD Viva, focused on exploring the use of acute and longer-term pre-conditioning strategies on combat sport performance.

I’m a fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA), after gaining a postgraduate teaching certificate in higher education (PGCTHE).

I hold a strong research and applied background in all things athlete physical preparation and performance, and technology innovation in sport, with a particular application in combat sports and football.

Alongside teaching and research, I’m an experienced strength and conditioning coach and/or sport scientist at organisations across higher education, British Fencing, EFL football clubs, and the Premier League benchmark fitness testing programme.

I began my career in sports nutrition, as the first performance nutritionist for Manchester United Women’s Team, setting up their nutrition foundation. I have also spent time working within schools all over the UK, improving the food standards for children aged 2-18 years old.

I have a background in consultancy, offering a range of nutritional support to NFL league Two and National League Football teams, GB Shooting athlete Georgina Roberts, wheelchair rugby and GB Boccia.

In my spare time, I am very active in the community, exploring health initiatives in the Greater Manchester area.

I have worked in education for 13 years, working in student athlete development at Wasps AASE Academy and Henley College, and later led education programs at Sale Sharks Foundation.

I consulted in LEGO Serious Play and work with companies like USPIRE Group, Birdseye, and the NHS.

I am currently pursuing a Professional Doctorate.

Azra Haracic

Lecturer in Media

I’m a Bosnian born visual artist, photographer, and researcher whose work bridges art, documentary photography, and cultural and media studies. My interdisciplinary practice explores themes of identity, memory, trauma, and resilience, particularly in relation to post-conflict societies and diasporic experience.

I actively participate in academic conferences and cultural dialogues focused on peacebuilding, reconciliation, and memory work in post-war contexts. I’ve contributed to panels examining how artistic, media, and photographic practices can foster intercultural understanding, support community healing, and document human experiences of conflict and recovery.

I hold an MA in Photojournalism and Documentary Photography, which allowed me to develop a critical approach to narrative image-making and socio-political storytelling. My formal training in visual communication informs both my artistic practice and scholarly engagement with visual culture and material memory.

With over a decade of teaching experience, I bring a wealth of knowledge and skills from the creative and media industries to my work.

UA92 Colin Stone

Lecturer in Media & Journalism

I have over 30 years’ experience working in television, joining UA92 in 2024. 

I have directed programmes for major broadcasters, including sport, music and observational documentary.  I have produced investigative current affairs films for ITV1’s ‘Tonight’, Channel 4’s ‘Dispatches’ and BBC1’s ‘Panorama’. 

As a Series Producer, I have worked on high-profile programmes, including 24hrs in A&E for Channel 4.

My passion for developing the future generation of content creators has led me to become a media industry mentor, as well as delivering training courses and documentary masterclasses.

As part of the Media Team, I am committed to sharing my extensive knowledge and experience with students at UA92.

My background is in international news and video journalism. Some important moments of coverage include the Russia-Ukraine war, the US and UK elections, and holding politicians to account across parliaments.

As a presenter, I have interviewed talent on the pink carpet and hosted a tour of the Big Brother House, and as a writer, my stories have featured in many of the UK and US national publications.

I enjoy exploring social issues and forms of power with UA92’s Media students.

Gareth Taylor

Media Lecturer

As a Media Lecturer at UA92, I bring nearly two decades of international expertise to the classroom with experience of covering major news stories and producing sports programs focusing on football, boxing, and motorsport.

My work as a self-shooting director and producer has taken me around the globe, resulting in award-winning documentaries.

I have also contributed to various projects including films, commercials, music videos, and documentaries.

I’m passionate about amplifying the voices and experiences of underrepresented individuals, bringing their stories to light through compelling visual narratives.

In my role as an educator, I am dedicated to nurturing technically proficient, journalistically confident, and independent students who possess curiosity and critical thinking skills.

Outside of work, I maintain an adventurous spirit and enjoy participating in competitive 5-a-side football matches.

Michelle Gooden-Jones

Lecturer in Media and Journalism

I’m an experienced television news producer with a dynamic background at top news organisations like Sky News and Al Jazeera English, where I crafted compelling news reports, scripts, and visual segments.

I’ve supported high-profile political media at the House of Commons with the Rt Hon Diane Abbott MP and fine-tuned her media monitoring expertise at the Cabinet Office.

With additional production experience at the BBC, I bring a rich skill set in storytelling, guest booking, and strategic content, making me a versatile asset in journalism education.

Phil Jones - Media Academic

Phil Jones

Senior Lecturer

With more than 30 years’ experience in journalism and broadcasting, I joined UA92 in 2020.

I presented a daily show for CNN out of Atlanta from 1994-2002 and was a presenter/reporter for BBC Sport for the next 15 years, covering such major events as the Olympics, World Cup, Commonwealth Games, Wimbledon, the Ryder Cup and the Augusta Masters.

I’m a Salfordian born and bred, and I’m now able to share a wealth of knowledge with students across a variety of journalism and media and communications courses.
