What you will learn

Building your confidence and business know-how, our 1-year Business Management Cert HE is equivalent to the first year of a degree, and will pave the way to a successful career in business.

  • Examine the contemporary business environment and get to grips with the opportunities and challenges businesses face.
  • Understand the core concepts of organisational behaviour and contemporary management theory.
  • Learn how to manage risk and financial resources and look at the tools businesses use to reduce organisational risk.

Module 1 - Contemporary Business Environment

You will be introduced to the contemporary business environment and foster a practical understanding of the commercial opportunities and challenges facing businesses.

Module 2 - Managing Finance and Risk

An introduction to the core issues in managing risk and financial resources. Learn how to assess and quantify risks and understand how tools such as risk registers are used by organisations to mitigate organisational risk.

Module 3 - Managing in the Digital World

You will delve into the core concepts in organisational behaviour and contemporary management theory.

Module 4 - Data and Decision Making

You will be introduced to a range of approaches used in analysing business data. This includes predictive analytics, regression analysis, time-series analysis, big data, and machine learning.

Assessment takes the form of a Professional Diary, which is a log capturing evidence of your learning, activities and reflections. This can be videos, photos or even audio.

This is supplemented with a reflective account, which links your experiences to your personal growth.

What’s next?

This 1-year course is the perfect stepping stone to a full business management degree. If you pass the Cert HE successfully, you will automatically be eligible to progress to the second year of the 3-year degree programme.

If you choose to leave after the 1-year Cert HE, you’ll walk away with a valuable level 4 qualification which will support your job applications in the sector.

Whatever you decide, you’ll have options to move into a range of roles from business development to marketing, human resources, management consultancy, project management or investment.

Anastasios Traianos

Lecturer in Sports Management and Business

As a former international professional athlete with a strong academic background, I bring extensive experience across the sports business management industry, from high-performance competition to sport business, management and development.

I am passionate about using the power of sport to drive growth, innovation, and opportunity. I strive to create transformative learning experiences that connect theory with real-world practice.

I feel committed to developing confident, motivated, and capable individuals. I aim to support every student in realising their full potential, in their studies, their careers, and their lives beyond the classroom.

Donna Walsh

Business Lecturer

As a Business lecturer at UA92 with an eclectic career history, I’m passionate about proving a career-path does not have to be straight.

Previously I have worked as a manager in day centres for adults with autism and challenging behaviours, project-managed the construction of a swimming pool, and have ran a successful childcare business before transitioning to teaching.

Outside of my role, I’m a proud mother of two grown daughters, and a dog lover.

Emma Gaskill

Course Leader: Accounting and Finance

I have over 10 years of industry experience in various accounting roles and a BSc Hons in Business Law, Post Grad Cert in Education, and AAT Level 4 qualifications.

I have been teaching in Accounting and Finance / Accounting and Business at UA92 for 4 years.

My specialism lies in all areas of accounting, particularly taxation. I am a fully licensed accountant with the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) and run a successful accounting and finance business.

Garret Keogh

Digital Marketing Lecturer

I’ve built my career at the intersection of creativity, data, and digital technology. Starting in the 90s editing leading tech magazines, I went on to lead digital content strategies for major brands like AOL and MTV and worked with top digital marketing agencies. Later, I founded my own marketing agency, partnering with global brands such as the BBC and Nike to deliver award-winning campaigns.

At UA92, I’m passionate about teaching students how storytelling, strong brand values, and ethical marketing practices combine to create impactful campaigns.

I believe marketing powered by original ideas, actionable insights, and integrity can shape brands that make a genuine difference in the world.

Kelly Henley

Head of Business

I have over 14 years of teaching experience in Higher Education. Before teaching, I was a HR Manager within the hospitality industry for a few leading brands.

In 2009, I decided to take the leap and went back to university to get my teaching qualification.

I have a passion for teaching and learning and am a big advocate for our UA92 students, supporting students as a Course Leader for Business Management.

My areas of expertise are Cross Cultural Management and Leadership. My current research interests are Strategic Leadership and HRM At UA92.

Mohammad Atcha

Lecturer in Accounting and Finance

I have worked in finance for the last 6 years across a wide range of sectors, from travel and financial services, to investment management. I am passionate about bringing my industry experience to the classroom, to better prepare UA92 students for the world of finance.

Outside of work, I am a keen traveller and continue to tick new countries off my bucket list. I also passionately follow Manchester United. During any spare time, I have a keen interest in single player strategy games, which allow me switch off and keep my mind fresh.

I am a lecturer in Business Management.

I completed my PhD in Business Management in 2023 and have since worked with different universities across the UK.

I am very passionate about innovation and how it can impact firm performance.

Mudassar Sohail - Business Academic

Mudassar Sohail

Business Lecturer

I’m a lecturer in Business Management at UA92, teaching at the UA92 Business School.

I have a Doctorate in Business Administration, an MSc in Marketing and an MBA in Business Administration and Management.

In 2019, I was awarded with ‘Best Research Paper in Track’ for my research focusing on the intersection between marketing, technology and consumer experience.

I am especially interested in exploring the impact of digital media on human behaviour.

Natalie Walker-Craig - Business Academic

Natalie Walker-Craig

Sports Management Lecturer

I have over 25 years in the sports and leisure industry, putting great focus on creating inclusive, accessible activities and spaces for all.  

As a lead for equality, diversity, and inclusion initiatives in Salford, I’ve managed community sports development teams and programmes, including redeveloping school and university sports facilities in Greater Manchester.

I’m now a lecturer in Sport Business Management at UA92, passionate about inspiring and educating future sports leaders to champion diversity and community engagement in the industry.

In my spare time, I enjoy playing golf and padel tennis.

Spencer Fearn

Course Leader: Sports Management

I have worked in the education sector for 30 years, leading companies in FE before making the change to work in HE a number of years ago.

I have a varied career, from owning professional football clubs, to a manager / promoter in professional boxing and a director of a rugby union team.

I also worked in the music industry for several years promoting house music events in England, Ibiza and Marbella!

As well as working for UA92, I am a coach educator for the English F.A and own a private football academy where I coach boys and girls from the age of 7.

Education-wise, I have 2 master’s degrees, 2 Johan Cruyff master’s in Coaching and Sports Management, Level 7s in Management and Strategic Management and am a WABC accredited executive coach.

My biggest passion is football, and I am a long-suffering Sheffield Wednesday fan.

A TEF Silver award is a recognition that a university or college provides high-quality teaching, learning, and outcomes for its students. It’s given by the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF), a national scheme that assesses undergraduate courses in the UK. 

* There may be exams in some subject areas where external accreditations are available.

** If you start in February or April or as an accelerated student, we can’t guarantee your timetable will be fixed am/pm throughout your studies.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

The standard entry requirements for the Business Management Cert HE course is 64 UCAS points. However, each application is assessed on an individual basis, taking into consideration a wide range of factors. Depending on your personal circumstances, and in line with our  Contextual Admissions Policy, your application may still be considered if you have less than 64 UCAS Points. Alternatively, we have other courses that we can offer.   • 2 GCSEs at Grade C/4 or above including English Language
  • Accepted Alternatives: Functional Skills Level 2 (English and Maths)

LEVEL 3

  • UCAS Points: 64
  • A Levels: CC (64 equivalent)
  • BTEC National Extended Diploma: MPP
  • BTEC Diploma: MM
  • T Levels: P (C+)
  • Scottish Advanced Highers: DD
  • IB: 24 points with 14 from Higher Level Subjects

NON-TRADITONAL

Some qualifications do not carry UCAS Tariff points but may still be considered. We take into account a range of qualifications and work/life experience that can demonstrate your ability to succeed on the course. Each application is assessed on an individual basis, taking into consideration a wide range of factors.

INTERNATIONAL

International Baccalaureat 

Pass the IB Diploma with minimum 24 points overall, with 14 points from Higher Level Subjects.

English Language Requirements

In addition to meeting the academic criteria, if your first language isn’t English, you may be asked for a recognised English language qualification. This is especially important if you are not a national of a majority English speaking country or you haven’t completed a degree in English. If you are an international student, in order to obtain a student visa, you will be required to demonstrate that you have the correct level of English language competency to study in the UK.
