UA92 are offering full-funded places on their Skills for Life Bootcamps in order to fast-track much needed digital tech talent in Manchester.
Neil Uddin, former Paratrooper in the British Army, hopes to become a Cloud Engineer after completing the free 12-week course.
This is Neil’s story:
“When I left school, I joined the army. After a successful 15-year career in the Parachute Regiment, working my way up from a junior Paratrooper to a Senior Corporal, I sustained an injury and was medically discharged from service.
“It was a daunting prospect, becoming a civilian again and looking for a new career. But I was up for the challenge and decided to throw myself in at the deep end.
“I saw an advert on social media which caught my attention. I’ve always been interested in technology, so it seemed to be a good option. I knew the tech and data industry was growing rapidly so it was a sensible decision to pursue a career in this field.
“The process of applying for the Skills for Life Bootcamp was very straightforward. I filled in the application form and before long it was confirmed that I was eligible. I was eager and excited to get started but equally as nervous that I didn’t have a tech background.
“I needn’t have been worried. I have learnt so much in such a short space of time. On day 1 of the bootcamp, I didn’t know what Amazon AWS was or that much about “the cloud”. Now I can launch an EC2 virtual machine in a specific region around the globe!
“As well as this, I have worked on my coding skills and knowledge of computer languages including Python. We’ve had time to focus on personal development and will soon be taking my CompTIA exam.
“I’m feeling positive about the prospect of a future career in Cloud Engineering and hope to go on to further my skills in AWS.
“If you’re considering signing up to a Skills for Life Bootcamp then my advice would be… Do it! You have nothing to lose but so much to gain!”
