UA92 has achieved the highest possible 3-star accreditation from British Universities and College Sport (BUCS), highlighting our outstanding commitment to football and futsal, despite being one of the youngest higher education institutions in the UK.
What does 3-star BUCS accreditation this mean?
The 3-star rating is awarded for excellence across all key areas of university sport: participation, leadership, and competition. This highlights the diverse opportunities for UA92 students to get involved, develop their skills, and grow as athletes and leaders.
Developing Future Leaders in Sport
Thirteen students got the opportunity to take on leadership roles through national initiatives like the Women’s Leadership Programme, the FA Leadership Academy, and the Emerging Club Leaders Programme. Many secured hands-on placements at clubs including Trafford FC, Liverpool Feds, and FC United of Manchester, getting invaluable hands-on industry experience.
Success on the football field
Across six competitive teams, including four men’s teams, one women’s team, and a futsal team, there are over 120 students taking part in competitive football and futsal at UA92. That’s a massive 10% of the entire student body. In just four seasons, our teams have racked up three league titles and three promotions, proving that ambition and quality coaching can go a long way in a short space of time.
Delivering Community Impact
Twelve students earned FA coaching qualifications thanks to BUCS Football Development Project funding. They are now putting their skills to the test by delivering sessions to over 100 people in local community groups. It’s a great example of how sport is helping our students to build skills, give back, and prepare for life beyond university.
Sean Lofting, Football Development Officer at BUCS, said “UA92 are fully deserving of achieving 3–star Accredited University status for the second consecutive year. They’ve gone above and beyond in their engagement with Football Development programmes, most notably through Development Project funding, engagement in the Manchester Universities working group and being a part of the Emerging Club Leaders pilot programme.”
Chris Smith, Football and Futsal Development Officer at UA92, said: “This accreditation reflects the dedication and hard work of our staff, coaches and students. Football is undeniably integral to our offering at UA92. Students are drawn to the strength and reputation of our provision and this recognition highlights our commitment to nurturing an environment where students can play, develop and upskill.”
Lola Arribas Rodriguez, a second year Sports and Exercise Science student at UA92, said: “Being part of both the Women’s Leadership Programme and the Emerging Club Leaders programme has pushed me out of my comfort zone, helping me grow in confidence and expand my network. My placement as a Fan Experience Officer at Liverpool Feds allows me to share ideas and learn from real-world experiences, while also fuelling my passion for women’s football.”
