Getting Career Ready

BACK

During the final year of my Sports and Exercise Science degree at UA92, I had the incredible opportunity to undertake a summer internship with one of the industry partners, Lancashire Cricket Club. I worked as a Commercial Partnerships and Conference and Events Intern, equipping me with real-world experience and acting as an invaluable stepping stone to my current role as a Hospitality Sales Executive at Lancashire Cricket Club.

Industry insight is an important part of your studies

Ahead of my internship, I took part in an industry insight week with Nuffield Health at Manchester Institute of Health and Performance. This experience opened my eyes to the wide range of career paths available in Sport and came at exactly the right time, just two blocks before finishing my degree. It pushed me to think proactively about life after graduation.

My internship experience at Lancashire Cricket Club

Saying yes to the LCC internship was one of the best decisions I made. Previously, I often hesitated to take opportunities, but when the summer roles were advertised, I jumped in, mainly because I wasn’t entirely sure what I wanted to do next.

The internship gave me invaluable behind‑the‑scenes insight into the sports industry, from delivering first‑class hospitality to supporting partner engagement. I saw how vital communication is across teams like partnerships, events, marketing and operations, and how organisation and structured planning keep everything running smoothly.

Stepping outside my comfort zone boosted my confidence. I became more involved and asked more questions, embracing any opportunity to learn. The relationships I built during my internship also directly contributed to securing my full‑time role at the club.

Developing skills for my future career.

I didn’t always realise it at the time but the skills I developed throughout my time at UA92 became highly relevant in the workplace. The 92 Programme taught me how to conduct myself professionally, supporting my development in networking, business relationships and daily client engagement.

Impact on studies and career prospects

All the opportunities I had at UA92 gave me the clarity and confidence to lay the foundation

for my career, strengthening my CV and expanding my professional network. Most importantly, I learnt the value of embracing every opportunity. Each one plays a role in personal and professional growth and often leads to outcomes you don’t expect!
